Gdisk – The upcoming Alternative to Gparted?

The U**x/Linux universe provides more than one tool for each task. To alter partitioning tables for instance, it is not a big risk anymore. Is it really? And how about conventions for sizes? Gparted is the de facto standard under Linux, but there is also the Gdisk suite in the pipeline, and the Arch distribution installs it by default. Will it be the next top choice, will it displace Gparted? And for what reason do we need another partitioner?
